Iron Prophecy by Julie Kagawa--10/1/2012 (55 pages read)
The Actor and the Housewife by Shannon Hale-- 9/29/2012 (352 pages read)
Rot and Ruin Jonathan Maberry--August/Mid-September (480 pages read)
This week, while I was reading Rot and Ruin, I finally got to see Tom silence a zombie. This book hasn't really been at all what I was expecting. I've enjoyed the interaction between Benny and Tommy out in the Rot and Ruin. Obviously, Benny has some pretty hard feelings against his brother, and Tommy, for some reason, isn't defending himself. I liked how he took his time in teaching Benny how to kill a 'Zom' It really helped to see Tommy in an interesting light. Throughout the book, Benny has been really harsh... looking up to the other Zombie bounty hunters so much more than his own brother... calling Tommy a wimp, and a coward. I loved seeing Tommy's perspective on zombies and how they used to be people, too. That they should be shown kindness as well... even though they're zombies and pretty much ruthlessly kill people. Realistically, they were people who just got sick and died... it's not their fault, and it's an interesting way to go about bounty hunting.
Overall, I think there is an interesting commentary on judging, and on society in general. People are quick to jump to conclusions, make assumptions without getting the whole picture... even Benny about his brother, looking up to the other bounty hunters, and trying to do anything else before joining the 'family business.' I'll be interested to see how the whole thing turns out... Benny still has a lot to learn. I think his preconceived notions are quickly going to change, and he'll end up thinking a lot differently than he did before. I just hope he really learns to appreciate his brother, instead of just having a grudging acceptance of who he is. I think Tommy is pretty awesome.
(ends up at 292 words--you don't have to give word count, just realize that I'm pretty good at recognizing 250 words)
